Kwame Jantuah, a Private Legal Practitioner and Energy Expert, has advised the associates of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to counsel him to return to the country and address the inquiry from the Office of the Special Prosecutor regarding his alleged misappropriation of funds.
Mr. Jantuah speaking on Key Points on TV3, cited fear of the OSP seizing the former minister’s passport as a factor in his delayed return.
“One of his fears is that maybe when he comes to Ghana, his passport will be seized and that will hinder his movement because I don’t see why he is not willing to come to the country and respond to the OSP”,he said.
He added that another reason he believes Mr Ofori-Atta is not willing to submit himself for thorough investigation is that the implications of some of the offences committed may affect others. He cited the Cathedral fiasco as an example that might impact numerous individuals directly and indirectly associated with the extensive corruption that ripped the country of millions of dollars.
According to him, Mr Ofori-Atta should report himself for his own sanity and also protect his credibility as a man of his words since he promised to return after seeking medical care in the States.
“If the President or any close associate can call him to return and submit himself for scrutiny, it would have saved his image because the offences are grave”.
