Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has revealed that almost one million Ghanaians escaped poverty between 2024 and 2025, crediting this progress to the nation’s enhanced economic performance and improved living standards.
The Finance Minister stated that the reduction in poverty signifies advancements in mitigating deprivation in essential areas such as education, health, employment, and general living standards.
During the Mid-Year Budget Review for 2026 presented in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, Dr. Forson said that Ghana’s multidimensional poverty rate decreased from 24.9% in the third quarter of 2024 to 21.9% in the same period of 2025.
The increases he implemented coincided with enhancements in the labor market, as the unemployment rate fell from 13.7% in the first three quarters of 2024 to 12.8% in the same timeframe of 2025.
He observed that the statistics indicate the nation’s recent economic reforms are starting to yield concrete enhancements in the lives of everyday Ghanaians.
These data represent the many families who today experience improved living circumstances and enhanced optimism for the future,” Ato Forson said.
Ato Forson furthermore said that Ghana is presently acknowledged as the eighth-largest economy on the African continent, asserting that the nation’s recent economic achievements have bolstered enterprises, broadened prospects, and improved the government’s ability to spend in social and economic advancement.
