One of Ghana’s famous doctors and a senior lecturer in the field of renal medicine has died after contracting the novel coronavirus.
Professor Jacob Plange-Rhule, a former president of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), reportedly passed away this morning in Accra, after battling with the deadly virus.
Dr Justice Yankson, the General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), confirming his demise to us noted that the celebrated renal surgeon may have suffered an underlying medical condition prior to his death.
The news of Professor Plange-Rhule passing away has been received with shock and sorrow from many Ghanaians especially, the medical community with tribute pouring out from family, friends and loved ones for his great contribution to professional development and commitment to his field of work.
Prior to his appointment as the head of the GCPS, Professor Plange-Rhule was the Head of the Department of Physiology at the KNUST School of Medical Sciences, and a Consultant Physician in the Department of Medicine at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
