The return of Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea seems to have failed as the striker has now joined Inter Milan on loan. Chelsea have reached an agreement with Inter Milan to transfer the Belgian striker to them on a one year loan. Inter Milan are going to pay €8m as a loan fee for the striker.

Lukaku was very keen on a move back to the Serie A with Inter Milan being his destination after a disappointing season with Chelsea. Knowing the player’s desire to leave, new owner of Chelsea Todd Boehly, accelerated his loan deal. Inter however, do not have the option to buy.

Chelsea bought Lukaku from Inter Milan for the 2021-22 season. The Blues paid a record €115m for the striker but the Belgian scored just eight goals in 24 matches.

In December 2021, Lukaku told Sky in Italy he wanted to return to Inter one day. He said: “I really hope in the depths of my heart to return to Inter, not at the end of my career, but at a still good level to hopefully win more.”

Inter would have happily signed him on a permanent basis, but their financial situation did not allow that.

Todd Boehly’s Take Over and Chelsea’s Transfer plans

Chelsea are pressing ahead with their summer recruitment plans now that the £4.25bn Todd Boehly-led consortium takeover of the club has been completed.

The Blues have a verbal agreement already in place with Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, with the Spanish club preferring a quick deal as they aim to balance their books before June 30.

Talks on a deal for Kounde had collapsed last year but there is optimism from all parties it will get done this time.

However, Barcelona are also very keen on acquiring the French international. It is said that Koundé would prefer a move to Barcelona instead of Chelsea but Barcelona’s financial issues could be an advantage for Chelsea to get Koundé.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Presnel Kimpembe is part of a shortlist of central defensive options and is Thomas Tuchel’s preference. Atletico Madrid’s Jose Gimenez and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol are also among those being looked at.

Chelsea are yet to sign any player for now, but the transfer window is very young for anyone to worry.

New owner Todd Boehly, is currently the one leading negotiations. It was confirmed this week that chief negotiator Marina Granovskaia, will leave the club this summer as part of the new structures the club is implementing.

Although the fans have been left in an uncertainty as to whether Todd Boehly has the experience to get transfers done, it is believed deals would be done before the season starts.
