Two Police men have received various degrees of injuries from some angry youths of Likpe Nkwanta near Hohoe in the Oti Region after they were attacked while on a COVID-19 operation.
One is said to have suffered a machete wound while the other mistakenly shot himself as a result of the attack from the Hohoe residents.
According to a reliable source available to this news portal, Chief inspector Atiga of the Likpe Bala had a call that some people were not adhering to the social distancing directive from government and had to rush to the scene to ensure order.
However, the angry residents attacked the Chief Inspector and injured in the process.
A reinforcement from the Hohoe Divisional Police command was called in to assist but upon arrival, the residents became more furious and started pelting the police officers with stones.
Detective Inspector Joseph lra Nanaawala who was in charge of the rescuing team from Hohoe tried to disperse the angry mob and in the process his weapon accidentally discharged and fired at his Left foot.
He was rushed to the Hohoe Municipal Hospital where he was admitted responding to treatment.
Chief inspector Atigah was also rushed to Jasikan District Hospital for treatment.
The team managed to arrest one Raphael Sabo who was part of the angry mob and he is currently in custody assisting with investigations.
