Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng, popularly known as Dada Joe Remix, has officially pleaded guilty in the US to multiple counts of fraud related charges including the conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Prosecutors have stated that Dada Joe confessed to taking part in a romance and inheritance fraud scheme alongside his co-conspirators from 2013 until March 2023, specifically targeting elderly victims in Arizona and throughout the United States.
He has consented to pay around $4.4 million in restitution to the victims as a component of his plea agreement. He is set to receive his sentence on September 8, 2026.
Boateng was apprehended in Ghana on May 27, 2025, pursuant to an extradition warrant, and was subsequently extradited to the United States the following month. Since his detention, he has been held in custody.
Prosecutors have disclosed that the suspect employed a strategy of sending text messages and impersonating romantic partners on online dating platforms. They also send extensive emails detailing their business successes in the gold and oil sectors, soliciting partnerships to transport their products for enhanced profitability.
The case included collaboration between American and Ghanaian officials. The U.S. Attorney’s Office acknowledged the contributions of the FBI Legal Attaché in Accra, the Ghanaian Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), and the INTERPOL unit of the Ghana Police Service in facilitating the extradition, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs.
