Liverpool has reportedly submitted a first bid of 80m€ to Benfica for the transfer of striker Darwin Núñez. Núñez has been long linked to Manchester United and Newcastle United but Liverpool suddenly came from nowhere to lead the race in signing the player.
Liverpool are likely to lose their Senegalese striker, Sadio Mané to Bayern Münich and they would like to get a competent replacement for him. Mané has already made it clear to the Liverpool board that he is not going to continue at the club and Liverpool has no option than to find a replacement as soon as possible.
Darwin Núñez, 22, was the top scorer and was voted the best player in the Portuguese League last season. His performance has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, and they are all willing to break the Bank to get his signature. Manchester United were the team to have been reported that, they have begun negotiations with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes for a month now but there haven’t been any headway in the negotiations. Liverpool have jumped in quickly to get a deal done as soon as possible
The Reds are said to have submitted a first official bid of 80m€ to Benfica and have already discussed personal terms with the striker. Liverpool may increase the bid if Benfica reject the first bid to 100m€. Should Benfica agree a deal for Núñez, the player will sign a five year contract with Liverpool and, it will be a bite in the teeth to their arch rivals, Manchester United.
Manchester United are reportedly trying everything in their means to change the situation to their favor. However, the player is said to be favoring a move to Liverpool due to champions league football. Manchester United did not qualify for the Champions League and will not participate in the champions league next season. Therefore, should Núñez consider champions league football, he will certainly join Liverpool ahead of Manchester United.
Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid and Newcastle United are all interested in signing Núñez, but none of them have started any official talks with the player’s agent yet.
Liverpool losing Sadio Mané will be a big blow as he was very instrumental in their Premier league and champions league campaign last season, but signing the player will mean Jurgen Klopp would not have to be bothered too much.
Bayern Münich have already had their opening bid of 35m€ for Sadio Mané rejected by Liverpool, and are currently preparing a second bid in the region of 50m€ which is likely to be accepted by Liverpool. Liverpool will use the funds raised from Mané’s transfer to fund his replacement in Núñez.
The summer transfer window will officially open on 10th June, 2022 and end on 31st August, 2022.
