Communications team member for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Miracles Aboagye has been reportedly arrested by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) at the Accra International Airport.
Details surrounding his arrest remain unclear, but reports indicate a connection to his time with the Inter-ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization.
NPPs General Secretary, Justin Kodua confirmed the news in a post on Facebook revealing that the Immigration officers stationed at the Airport assisted in the arrest as he’s currently in EOCO custody.
However, his whereabouts remain unknown as lawyers of the astute politician have been denied access to him with no charges filed against him.
Justin Kodua has urged EOCO to allow his lawyers, friends, and family access, emphasizing that the rights of every individual must be respected.
According to the NPP General Secretary, the arrest was more of a political move to intimidate party members than a legitimate enforcement measure. He further claimed that the arrest was part of a larger trend of politically motivated detentions and arrests.
Mr. Kodua emphasized the importance of state institutions maintaining their independence and adhering strictly to legal frameworks, cautioning against political parties utilizing public institutions for political ends.
