The government of Ghana through the Ministry of Finance has fulfilled the Eurobond obligation ahead of time.
According to a statement by the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the $700 million Eurobond obligation of the Ministry of Finance was entirely satisfied ahead of the deadline on Thursday, 2nd July 2026.
The statement further noted that the total amount paid was $525. 2 million for principal and $174.8 million for interest.
Also, as of this most recent payment, Ghana has compensated Eurobond holders to the tune of US$2.1 billion, as per the provisions of the Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme, which commenced in January 2025.
Without putting an excessive strain on the country’s foreign currency reserves, the payment was paid via the Government’s scheduled finance arrangements.
Dr. Ato Forson revealed that the settlement has the tendency to improve investor confidence, which lowers Ghana’s outstanding Eurobond debt and showcases the government’s dedication to responsible debt management and maintaining a stable economy.
