The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 17 suspected cyber fraudsters and rescued 85 alleged victims of human trafficking during an intelligence-led operation at Dawhenya in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the GIS, officers carried out the operation after gathering intelligence on suspected cyber-enabled criminal activities linked to human trafficking.

The Service said the operation targeted a location where investigators believed criminal networks were operating. Officers arrested 17 suspects and rescued 85 people believed to have been trafficked into Ghana.

Preliminary investigations indicate that many of the rescued individuals are foreign nationals. Investigators believe traffickers lured them to Ghana with promises of employment before allegedly exploiting them in cyber fraud activities.

GIS officers also recovered several electronic devices, including laptops, mobile phones and internet equipment, which investigators believe may have been used in the suspected criminal operation. The Service is examining the items as part of its ongoing investigation.

Immigration officials said the rescued individuals are receiving the necessary care while officers verify their identities, immigration status and countries of origin.

The Service is working with other state institutions to provide protection and support for the alleged victims.

The GIS described the operation as part of its broader efforts to combat human trafficking, migrant smuggling and transnational organized crime.

It added that intelligence-led operations will continue across the country to dismantle criminal networks involved in such activities.

The Service urged the public to remain cautious of recruitment offers that promise lucrative jobs abroad or within Ghana without proper verification.

It also encouraged anyone with information on suspected trafficking or immigration-related offences to report it through the appropriate security channels.

Investigations remain ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face the legal process if sufficient evidence is established.
