Seth Kobina, a 40-year-old gold buyer, was tragically murdered at his gold-buying shop located in Agona Fie, near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region of Ghana.
The incident that occurred on Thursday, August 20, resulted in the arrest of five suspects. One of the suspects, identified as Emmanuel Amponsah, who is believed to be the leader of the armed robbery group, has been confirmed dead while in police custody.
Seth Kobina, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, was quickly transported to the Agona Nkwanta Government Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
According to the police, preliminary investigations and CCTV footage obtained from the crime scene led to the arrest of the 29-year-old gang leader, ‘Amponsah’ popularly known as “Vandam” on August 21st at Agona Nkwanta.
A search conducted on him revealed a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges.
The Police noted that Amponsah fell ill while in police custody and was taken to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention, but declared dead on arrival.
Subsequent investigations have resulted in the arrest of the other four suspects linked to the criminal operation.
The quartet of apprehended suspects include Christopher Seyiri, also known as “Cross and Die,” aged 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, aged 20; and Thomas Odoom, referred to as “Wale,” aged 30.
Another suspect, Isaac Quayeson, also known as “Last Burial,” was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of his house resulted in the retrieval of a locally produced firearm, three operational BB cartridges, a metal rod, and two machetes.
The police revealed that during the investigations, Quayeson indicated to authorities that Amponsah was responsible for shooting the victim in the chest and also identified Odoom in the CCTV footage as an accomplice in the operation.
The four suspects are cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing investigations.
