Flag Bearer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on government to prioritize the safety of Ghanaians as crime cases in the country is on the rise recently.
The call by the former President is due to the murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh at his residence at East Legon on September 10, 2020.
He was found dead and in his home Saturday morning. He is believed to have been murdered on Thursday night.
But police picked up his body from his East Legon home on Saturday.
Prof Benneh had retired from the university but works on contract and lives alone in a his mansion at East Legon, not far from American House.
There was no sign of a break in the huge mansion the retired lecturer lived alone in East Legon.
Intelligence picked up by Police has led to the arrest of four persons in connection with the murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh.
The suspects are Christian Pobee, 32 year old cleaner; Isaac Botchway, 41 year old houseboy; James Nana Womba, 26 year old cleaner and Adams Mensah Mansur, 52 year old gardener.
The four according to the Police are the domestic staff of the academic scholar.
Reacting to the unfortunate news and it preceding action taken by the Ghana Police Service, Mr Mahama in a Facebook post on his page lamented on crime cases which is now becoming the New normal in the country.

I’m devastated by news of the gruesome murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh of the University of Ghana.
My deepest condolences to his family, friends, the Legon and legal fraternity.
Govt & the security agencies must take swift action to investigate & apprehend the perpetrator(s) of this heinous crime. We also need to urgently guarantee the safety & security of our citizenry.
