The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has congratulated Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong following his appointment as the first Chancellor of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC).
GTEC described the appointment as an important milestone in UniMAC’s development. The Commission expressed confidence that Dr. Ofori Sarpong’s leadership experience, business expertise and commitment to national progress would support the university’s growth.
The Commission also wished the new Chancellor success as he prepares to officially assume office.

GTEC said Dr. Ofori Sarpong has earned recognition through his contributions to business, philanthropy and education.
The Commission noted that his experience positions him to help guide UniMAC’s strategic goals and strengthen the university’s governance structures.
GTEC added that it looks forward to collaborating with UniMAC under his leadership to support the advancement of higher education in Ghana. Dr. Ofori Sarpong’s appointment follows approval by the university’s Governing Council.
He is expected to officially begin his tenure on August 1, 2026, becoming the first person to occupy the Chancellor position at UniMAC.
As Chancellor, he will serve as the ceremonial head of the institution. His duties will include presiding over major academic occasions and supporting initiatives aimed at increasing UniMAC’s national and global recognition.
GTEC expressed optimism that Dr. Ofori Sarpong would contribute to promoting excellence, innovation and research at UniMAC.
The Commission said his leadership could help strengthen partnerships between the university and industry while supporting the development of skilled graduates in Ghana’s media, arts and communication sectors.
