The Minister for Defence of the erstwhileAkufo-Addo’sadministration, Dominic Nitiwul, has strongly kicked against the politicization of the Afari hospital project.
Mr. Nitiwul, whose ministry oversaw the deal, asserts that politicizing the project benefits the contractor, who he claims is extorting the country with exorbitant demands.
“I have engaged with the contractor. He is cognizant of the political dynamics associated with the project and is using that knowledge. If we persist in politicizing all matters, it is Ghana that suffers,” Mr. Nitiwul said in an interview monitored by smartandstuck.
Mr. Nitiwul said, “I do not hold the current government accountable for the project’s delay,” asserting that no supplementary monies should be disbursed to the contractor for the requests made to the government.
He observed that the recent news conference held by the minority aimed to highlight that no supplementary cash should be allocated to the contractor.
Mr. Nitiwul, the MP for Bimbilla, noted in an interview that the objective was not to attribute the delays on the government.
The 500-bed military hospital in Afari was among nine hospital contracts granted to the Egyptian firm Euroget De-invest s.a (EDI) in November 2008.
