Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has revealed action the Akufo-Addo government has made for individuals known for reporting fake stories in this period thereby causing fear and panic among Ghanaians.
Fake news on social media has become the other of the day even before the pandemic broke out but it has become intense this time round as some people are always ready to twist a story for their own agenda while others are also quick to share such fake news without checking from other sources to prove it authenticity.
This, according to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, such persons will not be left off the hook this time as the global pandemic is claiming the lives of many across the globe and as such any wrong information in the public domain will cause more harm than good.
“Those reporting fake news will be punished. Examples will be made out of the few people found of doing that,” he said this on Peace FM Kokokroo morning show with host, Kwame Sefa-Kayi.
Coronavirus has become a global issue with over 30, 000 deaths across the globe. This has brought fear and panic among people. Ghana has so far recorded 152 cases with 5 deaths. And to contain and halt the spread of the virus, government has partially lockdown some parts of the country for two weeks subject to review.
