The just crowned English Premier League champions, Manchester City are said to be on the lookout for a new midfielder as a replacement for their outgoing club captain Fernandinho which Kalvin Phillips is the target.

The Brazilian International announced earlier in the season that he will not continue his career with the citizens when the season comes to an end, and, certainly so, he has bid his farewell to the club. Kalvin Phillips is expected to replace Fernandinho joined Manchester City in the 2011 season and has since won five premier league titles with the club.

His departure has now made it necessary for City to prioritize the signing of a new central midfielder.

Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United is a long term target for Pep Guardiola to fill in that vacant position. The Leeds United midfielder was very instrumental in helping his side escape relegation on the final day of the season where they came out with a surprise 2:1 win against Brentford.

Kalvin Phillips however, has also caught the interest of several clubs, prominent among them is Manchester United. Manchester United who just unveiled their new Dutch manager, Erik Ten Hag are said to be seriously considering an offer to lure Phillips the Theater Of Dreams to improve their midfield for next season.

Leeds United are historic rivals of Manchester United and a deal for the English international seems highly unlikely. Phillips is a Leeds born and he would not like to betray his own people.

Former defender of Manchester United who once played for Leeds has described Phillips as a true native of Leeds and, he will never go on the contrary to play for Manchester United so, Manchester United must look elsewhere for a competent midfielder.

This has virtually cleared the path for Manchester City to go all out to get a deal done when the summer transfer opens.

Manchester City won this season’s league with 93 points and Liverpool occupied the second spot with 92 points. Kalvin Phillips deal, when succeeded will strengthen them to fight and maintain the league title next season.

City may go all out to get a deal done because IIkay Gundogan is also said to be considering his departure from the club and Pep Guardiola cannot afford to only rely on the few midfielders available.
