The founder and General Overseer of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has described the politicization of the National Cathedral as stemming from a shallow-minded ideological perspective.
He said that the project’s failure was due to the opposition from Ghanaians, particularly Christians.
“Ghana wanted to build a national cathedral, and Christians beat it up with their own mouths,” he noted.
The esteemed religious leader noted that the initiative, had it garnered substantial backing from Ghanaians, could have positioned the country favorably and provided the Christian community with a dignified venue for worship.
He expressed concern over the division within the country along political lines, noting that initiatives intended to enhance the nation’s image are consistently dismissed by members of rival political parties.
“Others are building things all over. We are so small-minded, so small-minded, that we allow politics to blind us. We allow politics to just crush our thinking.”
Pastor Otabil emphasized the need for significant development efforts and encouraged Ghanaians to transcend party interest in favor of supporting projects that may provide enduring benefits for the nation.
“We need to build [the National cathedral] massively to the glory of God,” he added.
The Project, launched by the erstwhileAkufo-Addo’sadministration, has sparked significant public and political discourse, especially regarding its funding, expenses, and oversight.
