President John Dramani Mahama made lighthearted comments about the Black Stars players, pointing out that many of them were unable to sing the national anthem.
He believes that every player on the team should be able to sing the anthem fluently.
During Ghana’s World Cup run, he noticed that most of the players were quiet when the national anthem was played before games, but players from other countries sang their anthems with pride.
“During the World Cup our players did not sing the national anthem. All the other players sang their national anthem with pride. Ours were quiet. It should be a qualification for playing for the national team. If you cannot sing the anthem, you cannot be in the team,” President Mahama noted.
The audience at Jubilee House laughed along with his humorous comments, which served to both entertain and emphasize the significance of Ghanaian patriotism and national pride while representing the country on the global stage.
