Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga says Northern Ghana is well positioned to shape Ghana’s next phase of economic development through investment, enterprise and industrial growth.

He made the remarks during the 2026 Northern Business Fair, where government officials, business leaders and investors gathered to discuss opportunities across the northern regions.

According to the Minister, the area has the resources and human capital needed to support long-term national growth.

Akamugri Atanga said Northern Ghana offers strong potential in agriculture, agribusiness, manufacturing and value addition.

He encouraged investors to explore opportunities across the region and partner with local businesses. The Minister said expanding investment would help create jobs and strengthen local economies.

The Northern Business Fair serves as a platform to connect businesses with investors and development partners.

The event showcases products, services and investment opportunities from across Northern Ghana. Organisers say the initiative aims to attract private investment while supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.

The Minister said balanced national development requires sustained investment across every region. He noted that strengthening economic activity outside Ghana’s largest cities would support inclusive growth.

According to him, Northern Ghana can make a significant contribution to the country’s economic transformation.

Northern Ghana continues to play an important role in Ghana’s agricultural sector. The region produces crops such as maize, rice, millet, sorghum and vegetables while supporting livestock production.

Government officials believe greater investment in processing and value addition can increase incomes and expand export opportunities.

The Minister called for stronger partnerships between government and the private sector. He said collaboration would help improve infrastructure, encourage innovation and expand business opportunities. He also urged financial institutions and development partners to support businesses operating in the region.

Government officials say initiatives such as the Northern Business Fair are designed to unlock the region’s economic potential.

They believe continued investment, improved infrastructure and support for entrepreneurs can strengthen Northern Ghana’s contribution to national development.

The fair is expected to continue promoting business growth and investment across the northern regions.
