Erik Ten Hag was pictured arriving at the club’s Carrington training base around 8am, shortly followed by his two assistants Van der Gaag and Steve McClaren.

The club want to put their abysmal performance in the league last season behind them and begin a new era under the former Ajax manager.

It is reported that about twenty seven players reported for pre-season training on Monday and had the opportunity to familiarise with their new manager and technical team.

First team players who did not participate in their various national teams were all pictured in training. First choice goalkeeper David de Gea was present in training as well as fellow goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw were all seen at training. Anthony Martial who was loaned to Sevilla in the second round of last season returned to training, as well as Donny Van de Beek who was also loaned to Everton in January.

Van de Beek gets the opportunity to reunite with his former manager who helped to develop him to become the player he is today.

Youngsters Amad Dialo, Alvaro Fernandez, Shola Shoretire, Noam Emeran and Garnacho were all present in training.

Garnacho had the opportunity for an extended break due to his participation in the Argentina U20 team and decided to return early to at least fight for first team spot in the team.

The confirmed list of 27 players who attended the first day of pre-season: David de Gea, Tom Heaton, Nathan Bishop, Matej Kovar; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Ethan Laird, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Bjorn Hardley, Will Fish, Luke Shaw, Brandon Williams, Alvaro Fernandez; Donny van de Beek, Ethan Galbraith, Charlie Savage, Charlie Wellens, Zidane Iqbal; Tahith Chong, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony Martial, Shola Shoretire, Noam Emeran and Amad.

Other first team players who participated in their national teams are given an extra two weeks break before they report for pre-season.

The club are still on the market to recruit players to improve the squad. Frankie de Jong who is very high on the list of the club is likely to join the club this summer. United and Barcelona are at an advanced stage in negotiations and everything indicates the player will reunite with his former manager at Manchester United.
