South Africa has refuted reports in the media suggesting President Cyril Ramaphosa had been denied entry into Ghana linking the recent xenophobic attacks targeting Ghanaians in South Africa as part of reasons for the denial.
Vincent Magwenya, the South African Presidential Spokesperson, said that there has been no request for a state visit, as reported by Business and Financial Times.
The request was to verify the seating arrangement of the BNC, which was to be co-chaired by both Presidents and had been previously established during the prior BNC meeting. He said that there was no solicitation for a state visit.
Magwenya clarified that the letter was integral to the standard preparations for the next third BNC session, which Ghana is anticipated to host.
He also responded to concerns arising from recent anti-illegal migration rallies in South Africa, stating that there was no information indicating that Ghanaian people had been targeted.
“I don’t think there should be any tension with Ghana,” he said.
In response to the remarks linked to Ghana’s High Commissioner to South Africa and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Magwenya emphasized South Africa’s unwavering dedication to fostering robust diplomatic relations with Ghana and enhancing bilateral collaboration.
