Chelsea are set to submit a new bid for Raheem Sterling with the Manchester City winger keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Sterling has entered into the last year of his contract at Manchester City, and he looks very set to leave the Premier league champions to secure a move to Stamford Bridge this summer. The England International has fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola and he would want to join a team where he could command a prominent role.
Sterling, 27 is aiming at the 2022 World Cup which will take place in Qatar. He wants to be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad that will go to Qatar and to also command a key role in the team.
He is already one of the key members of the England team and if he does not get enough playing time in the upcoming season, it could affect his place in the squad.
Sterling is high on Chelsea’s list of players they want to sign this summer. Thomas Tuchel is eager to strengthen his team and Sterling’s arrival would improve their attack.
The club have already loaned Romelu Lukaku back to Inter Milan and are left with only one striker in Timo Werner. Werner has not been able to find his feet at Chelsea since he joined in 2019, and he cannot be a reliable source of goals for the Blues.
The new board chairman, Todd Boehly has insisted that he is going to do everything possible to back the manager. He would ensure all the key targets of the coach are signed to the club before the transfer window closes on August 31.
Manchester City have already sold Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal and they are willing to allow Sterling leave should the right offer arrive.
Todd Boehly is believed to be preparing an offer in the region of £45million plus add-ons for the winger. Chelsea have not made any signing this summer and should they agree a deal with Manchester City, Sterling will become their first summer signing.
An Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, who is the number one transfer reporter, has reported that there is a positive feeling around the people of Chelsea that a deal can be done.
“Positive feelings around the Raheem Sterling deal also tonight. Chelsea have a new bid ready, Man City are prepared to let him go as it was part of the plan – and Raheem is keen on Chelsea move. Personal terms, already discussed”.
It is believed that once Chelsea’s new bid is accepted by Man City, Chelsea would not have a problem with personal terms.
Raheem Sterling has scored 131 goals in 339 appearances since signing for City in a £49m deal from Liverpool in 2015, winning four Premier League titles among his major honours. He has also provided 95 assists for the club since 2015.
