The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has named Ernest Ofori Sarpong, the Chief Executive Officer of the Special Group of Companies, as its inaugural Chancellor.

The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has named Ernest Ofori Sarpong, the Chief Executive Officer of the Special Group of Companies, as its inaugural Chancellor.

His appointment will become effective on August 1, 2026, contingent upon the approval granted by the University Governing Council during its meeting on May 26, 2026, in accordance with the stipulations outlined in the guiding constitution of the University.

In a statement released on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, UniMAC announced that Mr. Ofori Sarpong will assume the role of Ceremonial Head of the University.

He will provide exemplary leadership, champion the University’s vision and strategic objectives, strengthen its connections with business and society, and bestow degrees and other academic accolades on behalf of the University.

UniMAC characterized its inaugural Chancellor as one of the nation’s most distinguished entrepreneurs and business leaders, noting that his career has been marked by innovative leadership and dedication to national progress, and extended congratulations on his appointment.

The statement indicated that under his exceptional leadership, UniMAC is expected to enhance its industry connections, expand strategic alliances, improve its national and international reputation, and reinforce its position as the leading institution for media, arts, communication, and related fields.

Mr. Ofori Sarpong serves as the Founder and CEO of the Special Group of Companies, a multifaceted conglomerate operating across several sectors such as manufacturing, real estate, construction, finance, and strategic investments.

He co-owns a range of notable enterprises, such as United Television (UTV), Best Point Savings and Loans Limited, Special Ice drinking water, This Way Chocolate Drink and many more.

In addition to holding a Master’s degree in finance and investment management from the University of Salford in the United Kingdom, he is a certified chartered accountant.

He is also a doctoral candidate in business administration at France’s Ecole Supérieure de Gestion (ESG). In further acknowledgement of his impact on the country’s economic and social progress, Barkley University bestowed upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Law.
