The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a statement announcing the release of provisional results for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The statement also indicated that 3,601 candidates did not show up while the results of 2,722 students have been withheld for further investigations.
The council stated that the results of candidates will be sent to their respective schools the Metropolitan, District and Directors of Education. The results can also be accessed online by visiting www.waecgh.org
Statistics
A cumulative total of 620,243 students, consisting of 304,415 males and 315,828 females from 20,789 participating educational institutions, registered for the examination.
This comprises 136 individuals with visual impairments, 282 who literally have hearing needs, and 510 people with various accommodation requirements.
The examination was carried out across 2,237 centers nationwide.
Examination Malpractice
After looking into several instances of irregularities found during the exam and script marking, the 37th Meeting of the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE, 2026, which took place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, authorized the following actions: the cancellation of 496 candidates’ subject results; the cancellation of 105 candidates’ entire results; the withholding of 119 candidates’ subject results; and the “withholding of entire results” of 48 candidates.
Students with canceled or withheld results are advised to visit https://irreg.waecgh.org and select the cancel or withheld button on the homepage. This action will direct them to the irregularities and investigations page, where detailed explanations regarding the reasons for the cancellation or withholding of their results will be provided. However, individuals whose results have been withheld will receive guidance on the subsequent steps they can take.

The council advised all parties to be vigilant against scammers who guarantee improved outcomes for a price.
