
According to reliable sources, renowned Ghanaian Gospel musician Maame Tiwaa has passed away.
Maame Tiwaa, known for her voice that was a big part of Yaw Sarpong and the Asomafo band’s success, sadly passed away in the early hours of Sunday, December 7, 2025.
She had been unwell for a few weeks.
In confirming the news, longtime manager Ashis characterized Maame Tiwaa as a “true representation of loyalty.”
“I have never encountered anyone as devoted as Maame Tiwaa.” She embodied loyalty in every sense. Despite the world’s opposition, she remained steadfast in her support for Yaw Sarpong, dedicating herself fully. “We will miss her,” he said.
For more than forty years, Maame Tiwaa served as a fundamental pillar of the Asomafo group.
Her strong, unique, and deeply moving vocals beautifully complemented Yaw Sarpong’s songwriting, contributing to the creation of some of the most lasting and spiritually uplifting songs in the history of Ghanaian Gospel music.
Her enduring loyalty and partnership with Yaw Sarpong, which lasted nearly her entire career, established her reputation as a genuine veteran of the craft.
She was frequently honored not only as a collaborator but as a cornerstone of the group, with her more than 40-year contribution to the industry recently acknowledged through her first significant nomination, reflecting her influence and unique talent.
Maame Tiwaa, hailing from Domeabra Ahafo, embarked on her musical journey at the young age of 10, eventually being discovered by Reverend Yaw Sarpong to join the Asomafo Band. Her dedication was so profound that she frequently received accolades.
Her passing marks the end of a significant chapter in the realm of classic, high-quality live-band Gospel music.
