Former President John Agyekum Kuffuor has recalled his first encounter with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the impression he left on him while they met in London.
The second president of the 4th Republic has vouched for Bawumia’s integrity and competence as he is optimistic that the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is the best man to lead the country and drive Ghana towards progress and prosperity.
President Kuffuor noted he met Bawumia In 2002. During that time, Bawumia was a Research Assistant to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Paul Amoako Acquah.
The Gentle Giant as he’s affectionately called disclosed Bawumia made a presentation during an international banking conference held at Landmark Hotel in London with high profile personalities in attendance.
The former president said he was highly impressed with Bawumia’s articulation and composure during his presentation, not knowing he was one of the boys of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Paul Acquah.
“Bawumia gave a very insightful speech. I didn’t know him from anywhere. And after his presentation, the applause in the room could tell you he did justice to what he asked to do. I had to meet him”.
Kuffuor stated that he complimented Bawumia after meeting him and urged him to persist in his diligent efforts to attain more success.
Kuffuor said Bawumia was youthful at that time, yet his comprehension of global financial trends was remarkable and he knew Bawumia was the right person to liberate Ghana out of HIPC (Highly Indebted And Poor Country).
Bawumia rose to the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana in 2006 during Kuffuor’s second term in office. His collaborative effort with Paul Acquah brought a lot of economic reforms that boosted Ghana’s economy, making Ghana attractive and resulted in significant influx of international investment.
Kuffuor made these comments during a live broadcast on several media platforms and concluded by advocating for Ghanaians to vote for Dr Bawumia because he is a man of integrity and that Ghana will be in safe hands when the NPPs flagbearer is given the mandate to govern the country.
