Both the NDC and NPP MPs on Tuesday October 22, 2024, have occupied the majority seats in Parliament.
This comes after a Supreme Court ruling stayed the Seapeker’s ruling. The Speaker of Parliament on October 17 declared the NDC side in parliament as majority while the NPP takes the minority position after 4 MPs seats were ruled as vacant.
However, on October 18 ,the Supreme Court intervened and stayed the ruling of the speaker thereby allowing the affected MP’s to continue representing their constituencies.
The NDC MP’s in a press conference, threatened to take over the majority place when parliament reconvenes today October 22.
The threats of the NDC seems to be no joke as the MPs have taken up seats on Majority side in Parliament together with their NPP colleagues as the vacant seats controversy rages.
The Minority side of the chamber is meanwhile bare.
The NDC MPs say they will only relocate if the Speaker asks them to.
Meanwhile, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus in parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin revealed his side in parliament will not engage in any form of physical altercation with the NDC today October 22.
He said that the NPP is not a violent party and that if the NDC MP’s try to take them on in parliament tomorrow, they would stage a walkout.
“The NPP caucus will appear on the floor of Parliament. We stated that, we await the verdict of the Supreme Court so once the Supreme Court has spoken, we shall be present in Parliament..,
When we get to the chamber and the NDC decide to occupy the space for the majority, we won’t fight them. We shall walk out quietly. If they put Ato Forson on my seat at the right hand of the speaker, I am not going to fight. I will leave quietly,” he indicated.
