Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has refuted claims that she would contest on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 polls.
According to her, Ghanaians should disregard any rumor that she has rejoined the NPP since she will campaign as an independent candidate.
In an interview on Adoma Fm on October 22, the legislator revealed her position in the ongoing speculations regarding her political intentions.
She noted that the NPP hierarchy has approached her but she is still running as an independent candidate. She also admonished Ghanaians to ignore rumors of her being bribed to rejoined the NPP as such claims are untrue.
The comments of the MP for Agona West come on the backdrop of some viral photos which captures her with a number of NPP MPs including the leader of the majority caucus, Afenyo-Markin and MP for Assin Central, Hon Kennedy Agyepong.
But, she stated that those pictures are just normal pictures and does not reflect her political stance.
The political atmosphere in the country has become hot after the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, declared four seats as vacant which Cynthia Morrison is part of the affected MPs.
Below are the four MPs the Speaker declared their seats as vacant:
- Cynthia Morrison, the current NPP MP for Ayawaso West Constituency. She has field to run as an independent candidate.
- Kwadwo Asante, incumbent MP for Suhum constituency who has also field to stand as an independent candidate.
- Andrew Asiamah Amoako, an independent MP for Fomena constituency in the Ashanti Region who has field to run for the NPP in the coming election.
- Peter Kwakye Ackah (Amenfi Central), NDC.
