Bernard Antwi Bosiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi has been sued by Exim Bank amid his ongoing legal battle with the state for his involvement in corruption related cases.

Lawyer for the embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman, Andy Appiah-Kubi, disclosed this new development after Wontumi was subjected to intense interrogation by officials of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Appiah-Kubi did not reveal details of the writ of summons which his client has been served, but he said they are going to respond.

“Nevertheless, we have also received a writ of summons from Exim Bank, and we are going to respond to the pleadings tomorrow. I am very hopeful that we will be able to mount a defense of the writ. When we are in court, we will indicate to the court that we consider this a civil matter, for which reason Exim Bank has issued a writ of summons, which we are also responding to. This is one of a supposed criminal investigation, and I am sure and confident that we will also be able to surmount a defense,” he said.

However, smartandstuck.com has gathered that Wontumi took a loan from Exim Bank to plant maize but failed to fulfill his part of the deal hence the suit. According to the former Fomena constituency chairman of the NPP, Akwasi Nti, Wontumi abandoned the maize project and defaulted in paying the loan.
