President John Dramamni Mahama has pardoned the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, after a video of him handing over an undisclosed amount of money in dollars to Agradaa.

President John Dramamni Mahama has pardoned the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, after a video of him handing over an undisclosed amount of money in dollars to Agradaa.

Sammy Gyamfi was heavily criticised by Ghanaians after a video of him giving stash of dollars to the founder and leader of Heavenway Champion International Ministries, Patricia Oduro Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

His action was condemned by many including party folks who believe such gestures can make the NDC government unpopular and send the party to opposition.

Sammy Gyamfi later came out to apologise and promised not to repeat such acts.

“I must say that I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by same. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views”, he indicated in a tweet on X formerly Twitter.

Despite his apology, many Ghanaians believed that the government ought to sanction the CEO of Goldbod to serve as a deterrent to other appointees, as his acts contravened the accepted ethical norms of a government officer.

In spite of public’s fury, the John Dramamni Mahama led government has refused to take any disciplinary actions against Sammy Gyamfi.

Addressing the media on the alleged incident and the decision the Presidency has taken, the Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said President John Dramamni Mahama has forgiven Sammy Gyamfi.

The decision was arrived after Sammy Gyamfi apologised to the public. According to Kwakye Ofosu, Goldbod’s CEO complied with one of the sanctions prescribed in the code of conduct for government appointees

“You would recall that when President Mahama launched the Code of Conduct, he said that one of the remedies for potential breaches is a public apology”, he said.

Nonetheless, Sammy Gyamfi has been severely warned not to repeat such mistakes going forward.
