The President of the Republic has stated that his administration has not issued a mining lease to any entity for the purpose of mining in Ghana’s forest reserves since he assumed office in January, 2025.
President John Dramani Mahama during his media engagement on September 10, reassured Ghanaians of his commitment to fight illegal mining which has become a canker with a lot of unpatriotic individuals profiting from the illegal trade at the expense of our forests and water sources.
He said, “I want to make sure that I am crystal clear about this.” “No company has been granted a license to conduct mining operations in our forest reserves since my administration began its new term in office.”
He acknowledged the formation of a dedicated team prepared to address the issue, highlighting the impressive achievements of the National Taskforce so far.
He said that the task force’s efforts have resulted in the confiscation of numerous excavators, water pumps, and other heavy machinery employed in the illegal mining activities.
President Mahama observed that the disruption of these networks represents a pivotal advancement in safeguarding aquatic ecosystems and rehabilitating degraded lands.
