Akonta Mining Managing Director, Edward Akuoko, has admitted to testifying for the state in the ongoing legal tussle between the embattled company and the state indicating that he will speak the truth for his own sanity.
While speaking on Okay Fm on Wednesday November 5, Akuoko revealed that the leaders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) appear to be primarily concerned with the welfare of Chairman Wontumi and finding ways to ensure his release. He noted that no one from the party has contacted him to inquire about his well-being.
“Party leaders saw me and Chairman Wontumi but they decided to show support towards Chairman Wontumi and no leader from the party has reached out to me to even encourage me. I am from a family and my parents are very Uchiha concerned about my well-being and so it became obvious that I should put my interest first”, he admitted.
Akuoko noted that he took the decision because of what he described as total neglect on the part of the NPP and upon sober reflection of the predicament that awaits him if he decides to remain silent and follow Wontumi blindly.
Akuoko further stressed that the Attorney General has cautioned him from making extreme statements against Wontumi.
“I can be jailed together with Wontumi but he (Wontumi) may be granted Presidential pardon when the NPP comes into office. Who knows me and who will remember me at that time. I will only speak the truth,” he stated.
