Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has thrown his weight behind calls from well meaning Ghanaians including parliamentarians for the scrapping of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) which he perceives as ineffective, akin to a toothless dog that barks without delivering any substantial action.

He believes that the Finance Ministry ought to reassess the significant budget allocation to the OSP, expressing worry with regard to the agency’s efficiency in tackling corruption.

“We aimed to convey to the world our commitment to combating corruption.” “Ultimately, we have observed the outcomes, and we cannot persist in allocating substantial funds to the same office when we aren’t getting any better results,” he said.

“Let’s confront the issue directly and ensure that the appropriate actions are taken.” I concur with the Majority Leader, and as we proceed with this, the Finance Minister ought to take note,” he added.

The Speaker’s remarks echo the concerns voiced by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, who advocates for the dissolution of the OSP, contending that the Attorney-General’s office should be given the mandate to handle corruption related cases.
