30 year old Donaldvan Williams has been sentenced to 40 months in prison after kicking a cat like a ‘football’ on the pitch.

Williams pleaded guilty to animal crushing, aiding and abetting and was sentenced to 3 years in prsion, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas has revealed.

He was charged under the federal Preventing Animal Cruelty and Torture Act, which prohibits harm to animals and bans videos of animal cruelty.

The incident took place at Beaumont in a parking lot of an apartment complex. A video recording saw Williams being urged by his friend Decorius Mire to kick the cat. The unfortunate incident happened in October 2021.

Williams kicked the cat sending the domesticated animal flying in the air around 15 to 20ft according to court release. The cat began foaming and trembling per a statement of factual basis cited by NBC News.

A third unknown person closer to the scene poured an accelerant on the cat and set it on fire shortly after it was kicked into the air according to prosecutors. The cat bolted while on fire. It has not been established if it survived.

Mire, who is an accomplice in the crime recorded the video with his cell phone and shared it on social media with Williams’ knowledge. Mire pleaded guilty to aiding in the crime and was sentenced in July 2023 to 18 months in prison
