A US court has approved a private hearing for former Akufo-Addo appointee Kenneth Yaw Ofori-Atta in response to a request made by his legal team.

The session, which was originally conducted online, attracted a significant number of Ghanaians who participated through the virtual link, although the proceedings were momentarily disrupted by technical difficulties.

ICE detained Ken Ofori-Atta for interrogation because of his visa status, according to a statement from his Ghana-based legal practice Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners (MPOBB).

Ken Ofori-Atta has reportedly submitted a petition for a change of status, a legal process under U.S. immigration law that allows someone to remain longer than the term of their original visa while officials review their case.

On January 7, Mr. Ofori-Atta was detained by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
