
Kennedy Agyapong has reacted after the ruling of a federal judge reduced the initial $18 million defamation fine awarded to investigate journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to $500.
In the video which is going viral, the former member of parliament for Assin Central expressed his willingness to contribute an additional $4,500, raising the total to $5,000.
“We have to give Anas $5000”, Kennedy Agyapong said in the video.
Kennedy Agyapong together with his team was captured in a jubilant mood giving praises to God for the final ruling.
Anas sued Kennedy Agyapong after the latter made some disparaging comments about him (Anas) in an interview in 2021.
Kennedy Agyapong was then instructed to pay $18 million to Anas by the Jury at the Essex County Superior Court. However, Kennedy Agyapong filed for a motion for remittitur, pleading for reduction in the amount awarded against him.
A federal court Judge reduced the amount to $500 after listening to the appeal of Kennedy Agyapong’s lawyers.
The Tiger Eye PI head confirmed the ruling by the federal judge but added that despite the reduction in the money, the case was about truth and justice and no politician should take the media for granted.
He indicated in a statement on May 12 that, “Many avenues of redemption accrue to me. But, it is important to state, as I previously did, that this fight has not been about the money, but rather, a fight for truth and justice.”
Explaining further, “Am happy that not a single allegation was proven against me in court when Kennedy Agyapong was given full opportunity to substantiate.”
Anas added, “I will continue in my relentless fight against corruption – and in doing that, continue to name, shame, and jail.”
