In a significant development, 653 results from students who participated in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) have been canceled.
Additionally, over a thousand results are currently under review for potential sanctions due to incidents of examination malpractices.
In a statement, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, clarified that the results of the affected students were canceled due to their possession of mobile phones in the examination halls.
This action according to him, aligns with WAEC’s standard rules, which mandate automatic cancellation of results in such cases, as confirmed by the Ghana Examinations Committee during its 40th meeting.
On top of that, 6,295 students had their subject results nullified since they were caught bringing in foreign materials including textbooks, notes, and printed sheets to the exam hall.
There are still 1,066 candidates who are being investigated for a variety of offenses; among them are 908 with withheld topic results and 158 with withheld full results.
Additionally, subject results from 185 schools are currently being withheld due to alleged collusion, with a final decision anticipated before the end of December.
The Council further noted that 35 persons, including 19 tutors, were involved in actions that undermined the integrity of the exams. 19 out of the total number have been convicted, while the remaining 16 are yet to be put before court.
