Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has conceded defeat and accepted the outcome of the 2024 general elections. He congratulated the President-elect, H.E. John Dramamni Mahama for emerging victorious in the presidential race.
Addressing Ghanaians Sunday, December 8, the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) admitted that his party has lost the battle to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Bawumia maintained that as the NPP is still in existence, there is still hope for the future.
“We have just lost the battle and not the war”.
Collated results from the elections held on Saturday, December 7, indicate that Dr. Bawumia is trailing behind John Dramamni Mahama in a decisive defeat for the ruling NPP.
Bawumia assured the President-elect of a seamless transition to ensure the efficient operation of government.
“I said during the signing of the peace pact that I was sure of two things and that is Ghana will win, and peace will reign”.
Bawumia said the New Patriotic Party would learn from this experience and do their homework.
He further urged the Electoral Commission to declare the results of the polls to prevent the growing tension.
“I am doing this for the EC to do the needful to prevent further tension,” he said.
He therefore called on Party supporters to remain calm and prioritize the peace Ghana is enjoying.
The Electoral Commission is expected to announce the final certified results in the coming hours, but early tallies suggest a significant shift in parliamentary seats as well, with the NDC gaining ground in several constituencies previously held by the NPP.
