The Office of the Special Prosecutor has declared former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, wanted for the second time after failing to submit himself for scrutiny.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng in a statement on Monday June 2, stated emphatically that Mr. Ofori-Atta has been declared a fugitive again after failing to honor a deadline to report himself as directed by the office. He noted that the former minister has failed to comply with ongoing criminal proceedings against him.

“This office has always requested his attendance, and we have indicated clearly to him that we are unwilling to waive it,” the statement read. “If we were amenable to taking any statement from Ken Ofori-Atta in absentia, we would have done so in February, and not waited till June 2, 2025.”

The OSP stressed that Mr. Ofori-Atta can not determine the modus operandi the office should use to investigate him.

“We want him here physically, and we insist on it. A suspect in a criminal investigation does not pick and choose how the investigative body conducts its investigations and the methods suitable to him and his convenience. We will not countenance this conduct, not in this case”.

This comes after the co-founder of Data Bank through his legal representatives indicated that their client is seriously sick and unable to honor the OSP’s invitation and therefore sought other arrangements to fulfill the Special Prosecutor’s request via a virtual meeting.

However, the OSP has reiterated that Mr. Ofori-Atta has to appear in person and give answers to alleged criminal offences including, money laundering and causing financial loss to the state.

Mr. Ofori-Atta’s refusal to honor the invitation has culminated into processes for an Interpol red notice to be issued for his arrest.
