
The Ghana Revenue Authority has announced the implementation of the Ghc1 fuel levy will take effect from July 16, 2025.
In a statement sighted by smartandstuck.com, the Authority noted that the decision was arrived at after consultation with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy, following a comprehensive review of current market indicators.

A lot of Ghanaians lambasted the government when the levy was first announced with some key stakeholders calling it a weak avenue for money generation.
Although, the government has explained that part of the revenue which will be generated from this levy will go into payments of Independent Power Producers (IPPs), to salvage an impending financial mishap can plunged the cointry into the second phase of continuous power outages known as dumsor, Ghanaians remain unconvinced by the proposal.
The NPP minority in parliament has since opposed the move labelling it as a deceptive method by the government to reintroduce electronic levy (E-levy) by the past administration.
The government’s decision to earlier suspend the introduction of the levy was a source of welcome news for many. Nevertheless, the Mahama government has found it necessary to reinstate the Ghc1 fuel levy in order to ensure stable economic conditions.
