President John Dramani Mahama delivered an emotional tribute during the funeral of Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, expressing the profound bond he shared with the two Muslim brothers, whose untimely passing has created a significant void in his heart.
Murtala Mohammed and Alhaji Limuna Muniru were interred in the Military Cemetery on August 10th. President Mahama recounted his cherished experiences with the two individuals.
President Mahama noted that he personally mentored Murtala Mohammed after he won the Bawku seat as a new member of Parliament.
“The two brothers, Muniru and Murtala were personally close to me. I mentored Murtala from when he was a new MP from Bawku.”
He further acknowledged their uniqueness in helping shape the party’s political future.
“They have been among the most distinguished members of our team, articulate thinkers in parliament and they have been part of our reset agenda. Muniru was like a brother. He was a permanent fixture in my house. He was like my personal assistant and so this is a very big loss to me.”
The President observed that since Murtala and Muniru are devoted Muslims, Allah will accept them into paradise.
“They were both devoted Muslims and I believe that by Allah’s grace, he will receive them in Jannatul Firdaus.”
He subsequently thanked all Imams who interceded for them to be accepted into paradise and also to the bereaved families who agreed to allow their beloved to be laid to rest at the Military Cemetery.
“I want to thank all the Imams who came to say prayers for both our brothers’ souls and for their admittance into paradise.
“Also thanked the bereaved families who accepted the bodies of the deceased to be buried in the military ceremony since most of them have other intentions for the burial of their loved ones
But I do believe that this is a conducive and safe place and you have the free will to visit their graves anytime that you want to do so”, he said.
He stressed that the NDC government will diligently strive to honor their memories and effectively serve the people of Ghana..
“Their memory should guide us to continue the hard work they were doing”.
