President John Dramani appealed for global unity, mutual respect, and justice for conflict-ridden areas, notably Palestine and Sudan.

In his address at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, September 25, 2025, President John Dramani appealed for global unity, mutual respect, and justice for conflict-ridden areas, notably Palestine and Sudan.

Mahama spoke about the lasting bond between Cuba and Africa, characterizing Cuba as “a loyal companion of Africa.”

He emphasized the significant symbolism of the UN, comparing it to a traditional gathering place that unites communities.

Addressing urgent global challenges, Mahama condemned the surge of nationalism, economic turmoil, and hostility towards sovereign states.

President John Dramani Mahama has called for an end to crimes against Palestinians in Gaza, urging world leaders to openly speak against the atrocities.

“For nearly two years and for the fear of reprisals, we here in this General Assembly have been playing hide-and-seek with language …

“But here is the thing. It doesn’t matter what you call it. If it looks like a duck, it swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, well, then it must be a duck. The crimes in Gaza must stop. The crimes in Gaza must stop.”

He also described the visa refusal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his entourage “a bad precedent” that contradicts UN ideals.

In a statement reflecting Ghana’s longstanding acknowledgment of Palestine since 1988, President Mahama expressed his continued endorsement of a two-state solution, addressing concerns that such a stance could be perceived as endorsing Hamas.

He contended that it presented the most favorable opportunity to achieve justice and provide relief to civilians affected by the conflict.

“Hundreds of thousands of innocent people” were enduring “collective punishment and forced starvation for no reason other than the fact that they are Palestinian.”
