A 57-year-old man has committed suicide after allegedly failing in his attempt to behead his wife with a cutlass in response to threats of divorce at Oheamadwen in Shama, located in the Western Region of Ghana.
Agya Badu popularly known as Express has been in constant confrontation with his wife who had told him of her intention to quit the marriage.
The deceased attempted to assault his wife on Monday who upon sensing danger reported the case to the police. The community’s Chiefs and Elders summoned him later on to advise and caution him.
The incident was confirmed by Assembly Member Owu Ewie during an interview.
Ewie disclosed that, following the exposure of the deceased’s malevolent scheme, he harbored fears of potential arrest, which prompted him to refrain from returning home since Monday.
He, however, returned on Thursday evening and initiated a brutal assault on his wife with a cutlass, seemingly intent on ending her life.
“He was a security guard for a company; when his duty ended yesterday, he returned home and again assaulted his wife, this time with a machete, intending to kill her. His wife, who sustained serious injuries, is now receiving medical care at the Efiankwanta Regional Hospital. Sensing the severity of his actions, he fled the scene and later hanged himself from a tree in the neighborhood,” Mr. Ewie said.
The two, according to reports, have a 3-year-old child. The Police have since started investigations and the body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
