Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old man, Akoto Nelson, for posing as a police officer during a public event at the Black Star Square in Accra.

The National Operations Directorate (NOD) Surveillance Unit, of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old man, Akoto Nelson, for posing as a police officer during a public event at the Black Star Square in Accra.

On Sunday, 19th October 2025, a contingent of officers designated to maintain security at a musical concert successfully apprehended the suspect.

The team observed the said individual clad in a police uniform, bearing the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), engaging in behavior that raised suspicions. In the course of the interrogation, he admitted that he was not, in fact, a police officer.

Investigations revealed that Akoto Nelso in question faked his identity as a police officer to gain free entry to the event, claiming financial constraints forced him to do that.

He disclosed that the uniform belonged to a former Chief Inspector named Gyasi, from whom he obtained the police attire in 2022.

A subsequent inquiry conducted at his house in Taifa-Ashaiman uncovered various items that were retained as exhibits.

These include, toy P99 pistol, a canister of pepper spray, two ZTE mini handsets, a pouch for the pepper spray, a ZTE charger, a Xinfa cutter knife, multiple complimentary cards, a voter ID registered to Akoto Nelson Elikem, and a birth certificate for Nelson Akoto.

It was additionally confirmed that the individual in question holds positions as both a security guard and a messenger within a private enterprise.

He is currently in police custody assisting in investigations and is scheduled to make an appearance before the court.
