After beating fierce competition from West Africa SHS and Hohoe E.P. SHS, Osei Tutu Senior High School has successfully earned a seat in the National Science and Maths Quiz quarterfinals.
The CNC auditorium became tense during the first round with all schools fumbling to have their voice with the first set of questions but they regained composure. At the end of the first round, both Osei Tutu and West Africa SHS had 16 points, while Hohoe E.P managed to clinch to 12 points.
The 2nd round gave Osei Tutu SHS the lead with 24 points while West African SHS had 2 points deducted leaving them with 14 points. Hohoe E.P could not make any impressive comeback after 3 points were deducted securing them a total of 9 points.
The Problem of the Day demanded precision and accuracy but West African SHS earned a point despite making good efforts.
Hohoe E.P demonstrated an accurate understanding of the equation; however, they encountered difficulties during the solution process, ultimately resulting in a score of 4 points. Had it not been omitting the correct unit which earned them 9 points, the Kumasi-based SHS would have won the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Award.
In the ‘True or False’ round, contestants took turns to answer the questions asked them. After the end of the round, Osei Tutu has solidified their name with 43 points with West Africa SHS commanding 30 points while Hohoe E.P struggled with 18 points.
In the final round, Osei Tutu SHS failed to answer a single riddle managing to win the contest with their 43 points. However, West Africa SHS answered two riddles correctly securing them 36 points while Hohoe E.P also managed to exit the competition with 26 points after answering correctly one riddle in the final round.
