President John Dramani Mahama has opined that he will sign into law the Anti-LGBTQ Bill which is yet to be relaid in Parliament.

The Bill presented in Parliament during the previous administration did not come to fruition due to legal challenges that arose after former President Akufo-Addo neglected to provide the required oversight and approval for it to become law.

During a courtesy visit from the Christian Council of Ghana in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, President Mahama unequivocally said that his stance coincides with that of the Christian Council of Ghana over issues pertaining to family and societal values.

“A person’s gender is decided when they’re born, and families really are the building blocks of our society. That’s where we stand and that there are no questions or uncertainties about what we believe,” he said.

He also gave his full support to the request by the Speaker of Parliament for the bill under consideration to be reintroduced and discussed, facilitating any required amendments or clarifications.

President Mahama emphasized that the will of Parliament and its people is the primary factor in the enactment of the Bill into law.

“Should the Parliament of the people of Ghana give its endorsement to the bill, proceed to vote on it, and subsequently pass it, I, as President, will affix my signature to it,” he asserted.
