Citing discrepancies in the marriage certificate presented to the court, the Kumasi High Court decided that Akosua Serwaa could not claim to be the only surviving widow of the late Highlife master Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, also known as Daddy Lumba.
In her decision, Justice Dorinda Smith-Arthur declared that the German marriage certificate that Akosua Serwaa’s attorneys had provided to prove her position as Daddy Lumba’s only surviving spouse was an extract rather than the actual document.
Additionally, the judge gave both Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni the right to perpfr the widowhood rites.
After the ruling, Ghanaian Bishop Owusu Ansa questioned the rationale for ordering that a legally married wife and a mistress should be recognized as surviving spouses of the late artist.
“You want to tell us that cheating is not a sin.” Bishop Ansah remarked, “God will deal with you, and He won’t let you go free.”
He went on to say, “God will never let you go free.” He will treat you the same way He treated Nebuchadnezzar. This will be a caution for other people.
“You can’t change what the Bible says by bending the law.” We shall tell the truth and say what God wants us to say. You aim to hurt the future generation, but we will never be silent.
