The Seventh Day Adventist Church, (SDA) Ghana has rejected allegations of endorsing former Assin Central MP and presidential hopeful for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Agyapong, after a video of a church pastor offering prayer for him during an event went viral.

The video was purportedly shared by a member of the campaign team of Kennedy Agyapong confirming the church’s endorsement of their candidate.

In response to these allegations, the Church has clarified that the context of the video has been misunderstood.

A statement from the church’s Communications Department stated that offering prayers for individuals, irrespective of their political beliefs, is a sacred responsibility, and discrimination has no place in this practice.

The SDA Church reiterated its commitment to remaining neutral in partisan politics and advised political figures to refrain from using its platforms for their own agendas.

“The Seventh-day Adventist Church does not participate in partisan politics,” it stated, adding that it urges “all political actors and their supporters to refrain from using our platforms, messages, or worship experiences for political purposes.”

The Church emphasized its commitment to inclusivity, stating that it welcomes all Ghanaians, regardless of their political affiliations.
