Former Ghana Black Stars player, Sulley Muntari has said that he was stripped of the captaincy without any prior notice or communication, despite his status as a senior member of the team.

“At the time I was the only senior player in the team and I didn’t understand why he took the captaincy from me.”

When he confronted his colleague, Gyan explained that he was called to sign the documentation that will bestow upon him the captaincy title indicating that there were no further actions I could undertake, prompting me to maintain my composure.

“You know Baffour Gyan is my senior and I would have given him the band if I’m the one supposed to wear it and that’s my principle. Respect must be accorded to who it is due”, he said during an interview monitored by smartandstuck.com.

“Asamoah Gyan took the captain’s band without any prior notice and I confronted him about it stressing that if his elder brother was still in the team, there’s no way I would have taken the captaincy from him because he’s my senior.”

“However, in my case with Asamoah Gyan, I wasn’t informed by anyone. All I saw was him putting the captain’s band on while I senior him in the team. I confronted him and he explained to me what transpired and I understood him even though I should have been angry, I kept my cool.”

And from that time Sulley Muntari revealed that he gave the skipper the best assists than any other player in the team.

According to him, he does not hold any grudge against him and they usually have fun when they meet.
