Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has conveyed a goodwill message to President John Dramani Mahama following the Court of Appeal’s restoration of the license for GN Bank, concluding a seven-year legal tussle.
In a Facebook post, the founder of Groupe Ndoum expressed gratitude to the president for fulfilling a commitment made in the run-up to 2024 elections to restore banks that were unjustly collapsed by the Akufo-Addo led government.
“To HE. John Dramani Mahama for the promise he made as a presidential candidate to return banks collapsed unjustly.
And for creating an enabling and positive social and economic environment in the country”, he wrote.
He also lauded the current state of Ghana’s economy as favorable and suitable for businesses to flourish.
Ndoum’s remark follows the Court of Appeal’s unanimous decision to reinstate GN Bank’s license, signaling a pivotal shift in one of the banking sector’s most controversial cases.
GN Bank was part of other financial institutions that had their license revoked by the Bank of Ghana during the 2019 banking sector clean-up initiative designed to reform the banking industry.
The Appeals Court’s decision to restore GN’s Bank license has sparked significant debate. Supporters of Nduom hail the ruling as fitting, while members of the New Patriotic Party regard the verdict as a fulfillment of promises made.
